Bee is Officially Part of Amazon, and Published a New Privacy Pages and Practices

The acquisition of Bee by Amazon is now official. The news broke on LinkedIn (which now seems to be at least the co-founder’s preferred method of breaking news instead of their Discord, which I’m pretty sure will be updated much later).

It’s been a busy week for this (for now) iOS-first AI Note taking wearable. On August 28, they removed themselves from the Google Play store as “we work through some updates”. Anyone who currently has the Android app is simply shut out of using it. At the start of September, they quietly released a firmware update that features new functionality which now shows a green light when it’s active and recording, it turns off when it’s not. They didn’t change the functionality of the button, just reworded it and made sure you know when it’s actively recording, which is a clear change from the previous firmware.

They updated their privacy & security page to show that they will sell Bee as a “standalone product” and your data will only be shared with Amazon if you authorized it. The two updated pages just reinforced Privacy mentions along with an option to delete your data, warning you that it’s irreversible.

However, reading their privacy page in their FAQ and their website (which was updated Sept 2, 2025) reads very differently, as they may share your data based on certain conditions, which also includes “if we, in good faith, believe doing so is required or appropriate to comply with law enforcement requests, national security requests, or other government requests”. They also put a blank statement for business transfers, meaning your data can be transferred as part of the deal.

    No other announcements were made.

If you’re interested in making a backup of your Bee data, I have posted a full tutorial here. If you want an alternative, I made a post about Fieldy and compare it to Bee.

Have you “Bee”-n frustrated with tech as of late?

Hello there. If you’re coming from the Bee Discord, you’ve probably heard the news: As of July 22, 2025, Bee.computer has been acquired by Amazon. While the future of Bee under Amazon is still unfolding, for some of us, this is a clear sign to look elsewhere.

I’ve been on the hunt for a genuine alternative to the Bee device long before this announcement. I’ve settled on a promising option, but I’m still waiting for it to arrive so I can do a full review. However, finding a replacement isn’t the only reason this blog exists.

    The State of Technology Today

Lately, it feels like technology has strayed from its user-friendly roots. It’s less about empowering us and more about collecting our data. Even seemingly helpful tech sites often prioritize pushing sales over genuinely assisting users.

This blog is different. It’s all about privacy and user control first. We’ll talk about how technology can truly help you express your creativity and live a better life, without requiring you to sell your data. I’m more than just a fan of Bee; I believe in using technology to help you live a better life. I’m also a big fan of the old lifehacker.com before it sadly became what it is today.

The Bee news caught me off guard, prompting me to launch this blog sooner than I anticipated. I’m still working on getting everything in place, but I wanted to get this message out to you now.
